Echo Park continues to grow, with news today from The Eastsider that Gareth Kantner of Cafe Stella fame is plotting to open a takeaway market and restaurant next door to his popular Dinette. Kantner of course has owned the property for quite some time, before finally installing Dinette late in 2014 as a takeaway breakfast and lunch option.
Now with the discount store that was previously attached being wiped out, Kantner is filing with the Planning Commission some details on his next venture. The plan, it seems, is to load in a full-service restaurant — complete with alcohol — as well as an on-site market that would allow for takeaway sales of beer and wine.
Of course, this isn’t the first time that Kantner has promised big things for that stretch. back in 2008 there was word of a rustic spot to be called Libre, but that went away quietly before Dinette finally jumped to life in 2014. But, if all goes well, it seems white-hot Echo Park could garner yet another big new restaurant for the neighborhood — right after Zach Pollack’s incoming Cosa Buona, which is heading in up the street.
