It's Tex Mex Paradise at El Tejano in North Hollywood

The casual bar and queso joint opens next week

Mostly outdoor restaurants continue to grow in popularity around Los Angeles, a final citywide realization that there's more to dining al fresco than just a leafy patio. Playing off the Austin summer vibes of outdoor drinking and lots of Tex Mex fare is El Tejano, opening next week right in the heart of North Hollywood.

Beginning next week, Valley customers will be able to dig into their very own buckets of queso and platters of nachos thanks to El Tejano in North Hollywood. The Tex-Mex option kicks off on Tuesday, right in the heart of the neighborhood’s arts district, and comes complete with outdoor games and loads of shade.

Mostly though, the restaurant makes for a great excuse to spend time outside, downing beers with friends and nibbling on food. The patio is perhaps even more inviting than it was during the old Bow & Truss days, and is promising to become a Valley staple in no time flat. Bright colors and bricks punctuate the space, while inside a collection of modern kitsch — think pink horned skull wallpaper and more than a fair bit of dia de los muertos iconography.

As for the food, expect the usual slew of Tex-Mex traditions, from grilled meats and flour tortillas to nachos, queso, frito pie, and other rich fare. There’s also a strong craft beer taplist, varying wines, a full bar — including lots of tequila — and more of the same type of drinking fare you’d find from Knitting Factory Entertainment’s other concepts like Big Wangs and Tipsy Cow.

El Tejano opens next Tuesday, July 26, with afternoon through evening hours only from 3 p.m. to 2 p.m. nightly.
