Glendale’s longstanding Shakers Family Restaurant is no more, as the nearly 50 year old eatery is being torn away to make room for a new project.
The Glendale News-Press has the scoop on changeover, which has been slowly taking place over the past couple weeks. At 43 years old, owners David Yost and Randy Hoffman decided the restaurant was in need of some serious upgrades in order to keep pace with the rapidly changing culinary scene nearby, and made the tough call to pull the plug. Similarly, Glendale dining icon Billy's Deli shuttered last June after a 67 year run.
In its place will come Central Grill and Bar, a full-service stop with more contemporary fare and a bar, which Shakers never had. The menu will be casual American fare, mixed in with a few Shakers staple items that regulars will be happy to see.
Right now, the address at the corner of Central and Burchett is undergoing a total rehab. The old Shakers was in dire need of repair, Hoffman says, which means there’s a lot of tearing down and building back up to be done.
Still, if all goes well an opening for lunch and dinner could come as soon as mid-October, with breakfast to follow. In the meantime, diners can still check out the other Shakers on Fair Oaks Avenue in South Pasadena.
