USC’s own Sprinkles machine

Congrats, USC students in sweatpants who don’t want to leave campus but do want a cupcake. You now have your very own Sprinkles ATM to enjoy, right out in front of the library. The machine is supposed to go live August 22 (the first day of class) and run 24/7 thereafter, getting stocked multiple times a day while holding up to 800 individual cupcakes at a time. What a moment to be alive.

Cliff’s Edge expands their oysters

You know that long-running oyster hour at Cliff’s Edge? Well they’ve been running it from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. only, every Thursday since 2012, but now they’re blowing it up to include an extra hour of $1 oysters out on the patio — and all night at the bar inside. Given the provenance of the oysters they’re sourcing, that should be one one of the best raw bar deals in the entire city.

The best tacos you can buy

LA Magazine is going all-in on tacos once again, outlining the 25 best single tacos you can find anywhere in the area. It's a stunning list not only for its variety, but for showcasing the many hardworking folks who strive every day to make a great product.

Eat These Fish! is an important reminder

There’s a new sustainable seafood situation happening soon at Preux & Proper in Downtown, with a collection of some of LA’s many great chefs on hand to showcase the little-loved sea creatures that could help save our planet. Instead of dining on the few remaining bluefin tunas of the world, chefs Elia Aboumrad, Mary Sue Milliken, David LeFevre, Tristan Aitchison, Samuel Monsour, and Christian Page will create a five course meal for $125, including drinks. The meal will highlight local seafood options that are much more sustainable — as well as delicious.

More to come from Kismet

Los Feliz project Kismet is well into construction mode, with a mid-fall arrival most likely. The Kramer/Hymanson (Madcapra) and Jon + Vinny project is still in build mode at the moment, but by the looks of things some detail touches are starting to go in.

STK hits the one year mark

STK’s new LA digs are now a year old, and to celebrate the occasion on Thursday the restaurant will be giving out free champagne and dessert to all diners. Nothing special here, just show up and get free food.

SideChef gives kids the keys to the kitchen at Au Fudge

In keeping with the theme of the place, Au Fudge on Melrose is doing a collaborative kid-focused cooking class session on both Thursday and Friday of this week. The one-hour events will let young chefs (ages 5 and up) make actual recipes themselves, in partnership with the folks at SideChef. Tickets are $40 a head.

The Nickel Bar's bathroom setup

Step into new West LA sports bar The Nickel Bar sometime soon, and you might notice something particular about the bathroom doors. That certainly happened to LAist, who noticed that one door showed a photo of a pre-transition Caitlyn Jenner, and the other a post-transition photo from her cover of Vogue Magazine. In all, LAist calls the stunt a bit "tacky," and something likely done for Instagram likes rather than any serious political statement.

The Super Amazing Restaurant Show

Alvin Cailan of Unit 120/Eggslut and Arjun and Nakul Mahendro of Badmaash have teamed for a new podcast called The Super Amazing Restaurant Show. Mostly it's a lighthearted take on the ins and outs of the restaurant scene, as both an operator and a customer, though obviously much of the talk is LA-centric. The first episode is up now.
