What it takes to open your first restaurant

Now that Here's Looking at You is settling in nicely to Koreatown, one might think the anxiety of opening a restaurant is over right? That's never going to be the case, especially if it's your first standalone spot, as is true with owner Lien Ta. She chats with Taste Talks about what it means, and what it takes, to open your first restaurant — and how those feelings of anxiety may never truly go away.

All about the bacon cheddar fries

Shake Shack in West Hollywood keeps finding ways to make their large customer base swoon. Case in point: the new addition of bacon cheddar fries, which complement the bacon cheeseburger that has become so popular at the restaurant. The fries kick off tomorrow and will run for a limited time. And yes, that's Niman Ranch bacon on top.

Leona turns one

Venice staple Leona is celebrating its first anniversary with a ticketed event that looks like a great time. For $40 this Sunday, get access to a sea-focused cookout on the patio that runs 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and includes a full-on clam bake, plus $2 beers and more.

Salazar’s boozy agua fresca night

To celebrate their massive successes, the team at Salazar in Frogtown is planning a boozy agua fresca night on Tuesday, August 9. The Under the Sea-themed event is being spearheaded by Beverage Director Aaron Melendrez and will feature one-off drinks plus a special fish taco and raw bar menu.

The wing's the thing at The Greyhound

Highland Park favorite The Greyhound sells a lot of wings. And to give back to all those wing-lovers, they're going to have a little party tomorrow night with half-off all wing orders and cheapish pitchers of beer. It's all day long, dine in only, and should be a hell of a time.

ERB is the industry's best secret weapon

Tasting Table focuses on ERB for a moment, the Arts District charmer with the great drink list and even better patio. It's become something of a post-shift hang for much of the industry, including vets from Bestia, Alimento, and everywhere else in between.

First date bars to know about

LA is full of great bars, but some may not be a fit for a first night out with a potential mate. Luckily LA Mag has you covered, with a round-up of great spots to hit if it's the first time meeting the love of your life.

Takami Sushi celebrates nine years

Downtown’s Takami Sushi and Robata is now nine years into its sky-high run, and toe celebrate they’re doing nine days of nine dollar items. All in all, a great turnaround for the place that went down last year for a month due to a generator explosion.

CUT’s next big dinner series

CUT in Beverly Hills continues to move in exciting new directions, as evidenced by their next ongoing Across Borders series. This one runs August through September 15, and features Italian flavors from curds to salumi to a big bistecca fiorentina. The family-style menu hits $95 per person with options for wine, before phasing out next month in favor of a new cuisine style. The full menu for the Italian leg of the journey is below.
