Melrose Place has become a mecca for hip kids and fashionistas, with everything from trendy shops to both Alfred Coffee and Tea. Next door to Alfred Tea is the newest branch of Moon Juice, opened yesterday off of Alfred Street.
The brainchild of founder Amanda Chantal Bacon, Moon Juice is described as a "modern alchemist" to "nourish and elevate body, beauty, and consciousness." That translates to a sleek space rooted in natural elements: Douglas Fir plywood walls, a raw copper Alchemy Bar and grey terrazzo flooring.
Beyond a grab-and-go wall with a colorful array of cold-pressed juices and snacks like raw chaga donuts made with chia flour (you probably should bring a dictionary along with you), Moon Juice Melrose Place offers hot and cold beverages at that central Alchemy Bar.
The store's "alchemists" help guests customize their Vittoria coffee or Gynostemma tea with "adaptogens," "high vibrational herbs," and the brand's Moon Dusts, powder blends with names like Sex Dust and Spirit Dust. Yup, that's Sex Dust, described as "a warming potion that will send waves of blood to all the right places," with ingredients like epimedium, ho shou wu, shilajit, and schisandra. Get your own bottle of the love powder to mix in your drinks at home for a cool 60 bucks.
All in all, it's quite the place for holistic medicine fans. Be sure to hug the giant, 50-pound jade crystal fastened to the outside wall before you leave and hashtag #moonhug, as will be instructed by your alchemist. Just don't steal it on the way out.
Moon Juice Melrose Place is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
