Alfred Coffee Kicks It Old School in Studio City

The chic coffee shop tones it down for their latest location, opening today

Just when you thought Alfred Coffee couldn’t get any more colorful, they go and do something like this: a throwback Valley destination for quieter cups of strong coffee.

As time has gone on, Alfred Coffee has seemingly fallen further and further down the coffee-meets-design rabbit hole. Sometimes that means Instagram-worthy mustache backdrops for all one's photo-taking needs, and other times that might mean lots of pink to go along with a strong cup of matcha tea.

Now with their newest location on Ventura Place in Studio City, they've kept things interesting by going much more minimalist. Step inside the subdued room to find more muted tones in teal and green, along with lots of dark woods and lightly printed wallpaper. In short, this is one gorgeously unexpected new place for coffee in the Valley.

Don't misunderstand things: there's still the company's signature "But First, Coffee" neon hanging over the bar, along with a patio up front for daytime lounging. But peek at the throwback paintings hanging on the wall alongside some kitschy needlework, and you start to get the sense that the place is more 'hunting lodge casual' than in-your-face beverage screamer.

That's a good thing for the Valley, as folks lining up for a drink during the week likely don't need all those bright tones and big exclamations. Instead, consider this a neighborhood place to stop in for a drip coffee, espresso, matcha tea, or cold brew on tap. Alfred Coffee Studio City opens today, keeping hours from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
