Jeffrey Yuguchi IN at Fundamental LA
There’s a new chef in town, as Fundamental LA retools with one Jeffrey Sho Yuguchi. The Los Angeles native was most recently executive sous chef at Animal, and will be working with owners Jeffrey Faust and Woogene Lee to hone the current menu, which still has the fingerprints of the departed Nick Erven on it.
Downtown’s ice cream destination
Ice cream continues to trend upwards in Los Angeles, with the opening of Gresescent in Downtown. Located at 850 S. Olive, the new shop has been quietly scooping since around September 7, but has a grand opening (complete with free ice cream) scheduled for Thursday, September 29.
The LocoL food truck is officially here
TimeOut Los Angeles shares news on the arrival of the LocoL truck, which officially hit the streets this week following some soft-operating hours across the city. The menu is pared down compared to the Watts location, but with regular stops and a street presence, it’s certainly a good time for the do-good fast food brand.
Trois Familia x Brooke Mosley
Longtime Outerlands pastry chef Brooke Mosley is back in Los Angeles (Formerly of Tavern and The Tasting Kitchen), cooking up a pop-up at Trois Familia in Silver Lake. The event starts now and runs until 2 p.m., with the full menu of options available below.
Happy hour oysters, just in time for football tonight
One of the best things about the return of the NFL is the booming happy hour business, as bars and restaurants see an uptick in folks coming in to watch games while they drink and dine. That also gives them some leeway to give back to customers, like The Gallery in Westlake Village that’s doing 99-cent oysters during happy hour on Thursday nights when the game is on.
Step back in time at The Pantry
LA Downtowner offers this bit of awesomeness as it fawns over The Original Pantry in Downtown. The diner classic gets the full photo treatment, along with some kind words.
Big surprises at With Love Market
The new-ish With Love Market on Vermont Ave. near the 10 Freeway got some surprise guests recently, as Kevin Durant, JJ Watt, and Derek Jeter stopped by as part of an AmFam campaign recently. It’s fun to watch the grocery store/cafe owners interact with the sports celebs, but the best part is probably getting to see the passion behind the place in general — even when the stars are gone.
