A New Doner Kebab Maven Spins Into Westwood Next Month

The place hopes to start slicing soon

SpireWorks, Westwood

Here comes another new fast casual concept into Westwood, with the arrival of SpireWorks to Broxton Avenue. The doner kebab concept hopes to open by the end of October.

If the outside space looks familiar, that’s because this location was formerly a Five Guys, which makes this one a relatively rare flip from failed chain back into something more localized. The plan with SpireWorks is to rock the Turkish favorite doner kebab, those vertical spit-roasted shawarma-style sandwiches so popular in Europe and elsewhere. Toddrickallen was the first to notice the location currently under construction in Westwood.

Far from being the first concept to bring the doner to Los Angeles, SpireWorks joins a legion of names looking to move into the fast casual space with rotating vertical meats. And with the shop’s proximity to UCLA, the hope is that late night hours will the company stand out. After all, they are in the murderer’s row of casual concepts in that stretch of Westwood, whether it’s ShopHouse next door or Cava Grill further down the block.

Expect SpireWorks to launch next month in Westwood, with plans for an expansion into an Eagle Rock strip mall sometime this winter.
