Though it arrived a few months behind schedule, Vito’s Pizza Santa Monica has finally opened its doors on Santa Monica Boulevard. Vito DiDonato of the original Vito’s Pizza on La Cienaga had always hoped to open a pizzeria on the Westside, and seems to have finally found a second home in the shuttered McCabe’s Bar.
Expect the same New Jersey-style pizza that make the original West Hollywood location a mainstay. Beyond pizzas, there are meatball subs, chopped salads, cannolis, and just about everything you need for a full-blown Italian American feast. Yup, that means wine too, as the full 47 liquor license that came with the space includes vino as well as cocktails and beer. That’s certainly a new addition to the already great Vito’s experience.
It’s interesting to note that the Santa Monica location seems to be a partnership between namesake Vito and Reiss Co., the Westside restaurant group with restaurants that include A-Frame, Sunny Spot, and The Brig. Whatever the case may be, Vito’s seems well equipped to become a beloved addition to the neighborhood.
