Free Doughnuts Should Sweeten Blue Star’s Saturday Arrival in the South Bay

The Portland-based shop opens in Manhattan Beach, and you can eat for free

Big news for South Bay doughnut fans: Blue Star Donuts is on the way. The popular Portland pick just quietly announced the launch of their next location (following an initial opening in Venice), and if all goes well Manhattan Beach could be enjoying Blue Star’s sweets by Saturday — without spending a dime, either.

The new Blue Star lands inside the larger METLOX shopping complex along Manhattan Beach Boulevard, just a few blocks up from the pier. It’s a smallish space, and likely just as minimalist as their Abbot Kinney original, but that’s okay because the focus here is on the doughnuts. Blue Star is known less for their gimmicky flavors and more for its take on classics, offering hard apple cider fritters and blueberry basil as possible flavor combinations.

The party officially gets started this Saturday, with a giveaway that starts at 10 a.m. Snag a spot in line and get one free doughnut per person until they sell out, then come back Sunday (and any time thereafter) for the usual hours: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., or until they run out.
