Today’s the day for Sumo Dog in Koreatown, as the beefy newcomer plots an opening party just in time for lunch. In fact, if you’re one of the first 100 people to show up to the address today at 11:30 a.m., you’ll earn yourself a completely free hot dog.
That’s not to say you shouldn’t make time to get in and try the place out when it’s a little less crowded. Chef/owner Jeffrey Lunak and partner Mark Stone have crafted a pan-Asian panoply of flavors that spans the gamut from Olympia Provisions pork sausages to wagyu beef options, with toppings from wasabi relish to daikon to panko and tonkatsu sauce. You’ll also find a few styles of tater tots, and soy milk soft serve to round out the meal. The full menu is posted below.
Sumo Dog is certainly a small operation, with Schoos Design, Inc.-built dining area that’s mostly just a standing room counter that wraps the joint and a few stools overlooking the open kitchen. This is the former long-running Romero’s right next to Frank N Hanks, so expect lots of takeout service and late night eats thanks to all the drinking establishments in the area.

To that end, expect Sumo Dog to run hours every day, from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday, and extending until 2 a.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The opening party kicks off today at 11:30 a.m. sharp, and if you want one of those first 100 free dogs, you’d better get in line now.
