Brentwood scores a winner today as Eater learns exclusively that Jon & Vinny’s is coming to the Westside neighborhood. The immeasurably fun red sauce Italian joint by chef stars Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo will take over Early World Restaurant on San Vicente Boulevard, with plans to bring the same big plates of meatballs and pizza to the area.
The push to expand Jon & Vinny’s has actually been happening behind the scenes for a while now. Despite its easygoing vibe and casual menu, the place is by far the group’s highest-grossing restaurant, and has a broad base of appeal for people all over Los Angeles and beyond. The only downside, at least until now, has been actually getting in for a table.
Hopefully the new Brentwood location can help out the wait time some. The team will have their work cut out for them though, given the current state of Early World as a retro diner with drop ceilings and wood paneling. The space also isn’t terribly big (not that the current Jon & Vinny’s is massive either), meaning this won’t be the sort of 200-seat empire-builder that rivals, say, Carbone in Las Vegas. The restaurant will have room for some iteration of of Helen’s Wine Shop though, which is good news for locals looking to enjoy a bottle.
Eater reached out for confirmation on timing, but it’s a safe bet to assume things are still a ways off. Early World is actually still operational at the moment and reportedly under lease terms with the landlords, so dealing with those issues and construction will take time. Expect a likely arrival in late summer or fall 2018 at the earliest.
