Actor Danny Trejo’s ever-growing restaurant empire reportedly moves into Woodland Hills next. And while Trejo’s own team won’t officially confirm to Eater the jump to the deep Valley, some state-filed paperwork says otherwise.
According to the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, a new location of Trejo’s Cantina will soon find a home on Oxnard Street in Woodland Hills. The address is actually the same as the currently-operational Italian restaurant Tuccio’s, though the Trejo’s team has (at least according to the state of California) already assumed some measure of control. Eater reached out to the Tuccio’s team to find out what was going on, and they confirmed that the Italian eatery will indeed shutter at the end of this week, if not sooner.
The move to bring a namesake Cantina to the Valley is a smart one for Trejo, as the man behind Machete continues to broaden his scope from simply selling tacos and doughnuts into more sit-down mass appeal. That’s been the plan with the Trejo’s Cantina in Pasadena, which sells everything from steaks to big plate Mexican fare to tequila cocktails. Don’t expect a super-prompt flip up in Woodland Hills, though; it will take some time to trade out the Italian ambiance for something more colorful.
