Los Angeles band Starcrawler took over Mom’s Donuts and Chinese Food To-Go to shoot a music video for their single, “I Love LA” recently. The well-known A-frame Silver Lake shop served as the band’s backdrop to illustrate one of LA’s oldest stories: people chasing their dreams, while taking soul-crushing day jobs.

Just north of the 101 Freeway on Silverlake Boulevard, Mom’s Donuts and Chinese Food To-Go is one of Silver Lake’s oldest shops, working that uniquely LA combination of Asian flavors and breakfast sweets. The juxtaposition originated from immigrating Cambodian refugees — many of whom settled in and around Long Beach during the 1970s and 1980s. Cambodians are also responsible for the iconic pink doughnut box color that has become the industry standard nationwide.

As for the music video, Starcrawler bandmates Henri Cash, Austin Smith, Arrow de Wilde, and Tim Franco burst into song at the 1:30 mark, but only after heavily lobbing an egg roll on top of some chocolate doughnuts. Sounds perfectly LA.
