The culinary fortunes of Third Street Promenade are on the rise, thanks in part to this week’s opening of Carlo’s Bake Shop, known most prominently as the restaurant behind TLC’s show Cake Boss.

Owner Buddy Valastro managed to start up his shop on the sly earlier this week, before Westside sleuth Toddrickallen showed up to confirm the doors were open. Now the whimsical interior is turning out dozens of sweets and pastries a day, from brownies and cupcakes to croissants and everything in between.

The Third Street Promenade location is the first West Coast outlet for Valastro’s chain of shops, with most situated up and down the eastern seaboard. There are also outlets in Nevada, Texas, and Brazil. Add the incoming Ippudo Ramen to the mix, as well as chef Dave Beran’s high-end Dialogue tasting menu room and the Voltaggio brothers’ recently-revealed STRFSH Grill. Look for an official opening party for Carlo’s Bake Shop on November 18.
