Chef Grant Achatz made his way around LA this month, and dined at Connie and Ted’s, Felix, Mozza, and Vespertine. Achatz is chef and founder of Chicago’s revered Alinea, and thanks to Instagram, the food world got to witness a renowned chef sampling some of LA’s finest.

Alinea is only one of two Michelin three-star restaurants in Chicago, and Achatz has a long list of awards since opening in 2005. As a chef who pioneered molecular gastronomy, it’s certain that Achatz’s experience was better than most. Achatz’s meals are chronicled via Instagram below.

Connie & Ted’s

Achatz first checked out the excellent seafood and especially this scallop sausage brioche, complete with blurry, poorly lit photo, from Michael Cimarusti’s West Hollywood restaurant.

Vespertine

Of course Achatz had to stop by Jordan Kahn’s ambitious tasting menu restaurant in Culver City. And it’s high praise for Kahn, who used to work at Alinea and counts it as one of his influences.

Felix

Thanksgiving week meant a trip to the ultra-hot Felix from Evan Funke. “All of the pastas were lights out” which many people agree with. Eater restaurant editor Bill Addison agrees.

Mozza

It’s always good to see chefs from out of town show compliments to local establishments. Nancy Silverton’s Mozza receives high praise from Achatz, who says the crust/dough was awesome.
