Danny Trejo can’t be stopped

It’s another slew of new locations for Danny Trejo and his partners Ash Shah and Jeff Georgino. The namesake actor behind Trejo’s Tacos and Trejo’s Cantina (as well as Trejo’s Coffee & Donuts) just recently opened up a duo of new locations: One at the recently-opened USC Village, and another in Woodland Hills.

The Woodland Hills location at 21550 Oxnard Street will actually encompass each of Trejo’s disparate concepts under one roof, doing coffee and pastry in the morning followed by casual tacos and full-service dinner at night. The USC-adjacent property is more pared-down, and meant for the quick-eating campus set. Both opened officially yesterday.

Beachside Guisados

Local taco legends Guisados aren’t expanding to Venice fully just yet, but they are doing a collaboration with Menotti’s to bring a horchata latte (and their version of champurrado) to the beach all month long.

To go in Downtown

Drinkers in Downtown can head to Garcons de Cafe inside the Spring Arcade building for one of the holiday’s best deals. The charming French wine stop is doing 40-50% off retail wines to go for the next two weeks, just in time to load up for Christmas. The sale is being initiated as a way to bring in a ton of new stuff for 2018, which is even better news for drinkers in the neighborhood.

And what to know

Speaking of wine, The Standard Hotel’s blog has a new piece up on wine lover Helen Johannesen. The Jon & Vinny partner (and owner of Helen’s Wines) opens up about her favorite places to eat and drink, from Guelaguetza to Tower Bar on the Sunset Strip.

Guest chefs abound

Also at the Standard this holiday season, Alma chef Ari Taymor will be rocking and rolling with a few guest chef nights. First is from Mads Refslund, formerly of Noma and Acme, on 12/2, and 12/3. Next up is Chris Kronner from Kronnerburger in Oakland on 12/10, followed by the Badmaash team on 12/17. No tasting menus here, just a la carte eating with a reservation.

A night out in Anaheim

The Anaheim Packing District is launching a night market on Saturday, December 9 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The evening will feature movies, crafts, live music, and of course food from the variety of vendors nearby.
