Last Wednesday, French bakery Michelina opened its second location in the former La Maison du Pain space on Pico. It has been a rapid expansion for the brand, which first started as a wholesale operation dubbed Le Macaron back in 2003 before opening its first retail stall in The Original Farmer’s Market in The Grove on June 24 of this year.

Currently, the newest outpost of the francophile haven offers the same menu as its West Third sister spot. That means there’s a wide variety of viennoiserie, breads, tarts, and, of course, macarons to satisfy all sorts of gluttonous pleasures. On the savory side, a menu of tartines, salads, and simple sandwiches hark back to leisurely afternoons in France. Owner Vincent Benoliel explains that the Pico outlet should see an expanded menu with items like steaks and burgers as soon as it gets settled in to the space.

Even as it currently stands, the restaurant and bakery should be a huge boon for the Mid-City neighborhood.
