The jump is Morningstar’s first executive chef role since 2016

Mona Holmes is a reporter for Eater Los Angeles and a regular contributor to KCRW radio. She has covered restaurants, dining, and food culture since 2016. In 2022, the James Beard Foundation nominated her for a Jonathan Gold Local Voice Award.

Kris Morningstar confirmed with Eater that he’s now in as chef at Jessica Biel’s kid-friendly restaurant Au Fudge. Morningstar is the former chef at Terrine, which closed on New Year’s Eve, 2016.

Morningstar started at Au Fudge two weeks ago. “I got along with the partners, and I get the concept,” says Morningstar. “These are foodies with kids that don’t want to go to Chuck E. Cheese.”

Since Terrine’s shutter, Morningstar has cooked, traveled, and consulted through his company, Morningstar Gastronomy. Morningstar even tried his hand at a pricey and lavish cannabis dinner at the now-shuttered Tavern 51 earlier this year.

Situated in West Hollywood, Au Fudge opened in 2016 as a restaurant with a child-friendly space and menu, with backing from celebrity Jessica Biel. Morningstar’s Terrine opened in 2014 with a widely-talked about French menu, before shuttering and becoming The Ponte under Scott Contant and on-the-ground chef Freddy Vargas in February of this year.
