One of Los Angeles’s most unique bars returns on Tuesday, as Brennan’s will once again light up Lincoln Boulevard with draft beer, casual bar fare, and those famous turtle races.
Back in March, Tony Yanow and the larger Artisanal Brewers Collective made a move to take over the Marina Del Rey property, throwing the future of the nearly 50-year-old bar into jeopardy. Thankfully the ABC has mostly just spiffed up the joint and brought in some craft beer, keeping a similar look and those all important-turtles in the process. Ricki Kline Design + Build revamped the 2,500 square foot space, adding olive trees to the patio and even more rustic pub vibes inside.
For those unfamiliar, Brennan’s has long been known as the home of the turtle race, a fun evening free-for-all where customers can watch actual turtles race to the center of a mat in the parking lot. ABC has vowed to keep the tradition alive, though with an updated living area and reduced racing hours. Fascinated fans can witness the races on opening night December 19, and the third Thursday of every month thereafter, beginning at 9 p.m.

As for the food and drink, expect a full bar under Gerry McCarney (Simms Restaurant Group), with bites from ABC’s overall culinary director Trevor Faris. There will be options like shrimp cocktails, as well as pizzas, and some vegan fare for those who care.
Brennan’s reopens on Tuesday, December 19, keeping daily hours from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Turtle races run on scheduled days, starting at 9 p.m.
