After two mutually-beneficial years, The Standard hotel in West Hollywood is moving on from chef Ari Taymor. That means the final night to enjoy Taymor’s Alma at the Standard restaurant will be December 31.
Taymor first took over the downstairs restaurant space for what was then considered a ‘residency’, but ultimately he and then-partner Ashleigh Parsons made the move permanent last year. Taymor also took over the entire food and beverage program for the entire hotel, which meant pool snacks, room service, and late night dining. More recently, Taymor has been doing a series of chef collaboration dinners from inside the lobby restaurant.
Now that’s all about to change, as Eater has learned that The Standard will be parting ways with Taymor for 2018. In a statement Taymor himself says he is “proud of the work” he put in at the reborn Alma at the Standard, following the closure of his Downtown hitmaker restaurant Alma in the fall of 2015. There is no word yet on what will officially take over at the hotel restaurant space, but Taymor has hinted for a while that he may be ready to do a solo project elsewhere in the city so it’s likely Los Angeles will have him around again soon. The final night of service for Alma at the Standard is New Years Eve.
