Chef Kris Yenbamroong certainly hasn’t given up on his Venice restaurant dream. The plan, as of spring 2016, was to bring another, different outlet of his growing Night + Market restaurant empire to the Westside, since so many of the Thai chef’s fans come from the area and have long been making the trip to West Hollywood or Silver Lake instead.
But as with all things restaurant-related in the city of Los Angeles, inevitable delays occurred that pushed back the timeline for opening. An LA Business Journal article from earlier this year pointed to the recent purchase of some property that should help to bring the former Siam Best restaurant on Lincoln Boulevard in Venice to life, and since then things have been progressing inside the building. While Yenbamroong and partner Sarah St. Lifer still don’t have an official opening date for their third location, a new conversation with Brooklyn-based shop Bird certainly spells out some details on what to expect.
For one, the blog post is full of images from the new shop, to be called Night + Market Sahm. There’s neon-bright orange and blue everywhere (just like at Song in Silver Lake), plus those kitschy iconic plastic tablecloths and yet another framed celebrity shot with frayed jeans hanging over one table.
Perhaps even more interestingly, it now sounds like Yenbamroong and St. Lifer will be sticking to the Night + Market basics with their new Venice location, instead of branching out into something different. Previously, Yenbamroong had said that he would be making the service experience and the menu pretty different from the first two. Instead, diners should now expect much the same fare as before, which is good news for those well-traveled fans of the first two locations. Expect an opening for Night + Market Sahm sometime early in 2018.
