Former Top Chef contestant Chris Crary is branching out, with plans to open the gorgeous-looking new Farmspoke inside the James Hotel later this year. When all is said and done, the SBE-backed all-day dining operation should be one of the more sought after spots along the Sunset Strip, thanks both to Crary’s cooking and the incredible views from inside the restaurant.
Things are starting to take shape now at the hotel eatery, with Crary transitioning slowly out of his executive chef role at Hyde Sunset Kitchen + Cocktails — where he’s been the on-site lead for a couple of years now — and into what looks to be a stunner of a new kitchen build-out down the street.
So what to expect from Farmspoke? Lots of light, blond wood, and a ton of foot traffic all day long. There’s coffee and pressed juice in the mornings, grab-and-go items all day, and sandwiches, salads, and heartier mains from lunch to dinner — all with some big views and open seating.

The hotel is still coming fully online and the restaurant is similarly starting up, but expect an arrival sometime in March. The SBE team is actually hiring up now, and should start to finalize everything within a few weeks. When the place is humming at 100% capacity, Crary will also be leading the on-site catering department and the room service side for the hotel, so Farmspoke will certainly be keeping him busy.
