Watch out Downtown Los Angeles, because the next semi-industrial section to get developed is the stretch just above Chinatown. New York City’s well known and beloved cocktail bar Apotheke, with an old time, almost medicinal approach to drink craft, is opening along North Spring Street according to a recent ABC notice.

The evidence is pretty strong here, with one Christopher Robert Tierney listed as the main member of an Apotheke East LA, LLC. Tierney is the proprietor of the New York City original, which opened back in 2008 in a fashionable part of Manhattan’s Chinatown. So it’s only fitting that Apotheke in LA will open just beyond the reaches of LA’s own Chinatown (though perhaps not properly in it).

Otherwise, the word on the street is that Apotheke, despite its more antique leanings, is still very much a trendy place to drink. And according to some other cocktail experts from our colleagues in New York, it’s “way better than anything in L.A.” Hm.

Eater reached out to Apotheke’s representatives, but has not received any comment.
