It appears that the end has come for The Churchill on West Third Street, as the six year old restaurant attached to the Orlando Hotel shuttered for good on Sunday night.
A sign posted to the front of the restaurant reads:
As of Sunday, March 5th
The Churchill is closing forever.
Thank you to everyone for all of the love and support over the years.
It has been our pleasure to serve you.
The quiet shutter came as a surprise to some, with folks who had made reservations reportedly getting calls from staff that offered to send their name and number over to The Hudson instead. Oddly enough, the restaurant’s website and OpenTable are still up and running, though the phone number is now disconnected.
No official word yet on what’s to come from the prime location, with its large corner frontage and easy access to everything from the Beverly Center to Joan’s on Third. It can be a tough localized market to crack still though, as evidenced by Terrine’s quick flip on New Years Eve nearby.
Update: The Orlando Hotel has posted online about the shutter of The Churchill, indicating that they “ended relations” with the restaurant, likely meaning a non-renewal of the restaurant’s lease. Instead, they plan to bring in an unknown new tenant.
