Voodoo Doughnut Spellbinds Today at Universal CityWalk in LA

The Portland doughnut legend has arrived

Farley Elliott is the Senior Editor at Eater LA and the author of Los Angeles Street Food: A History From Tamaleros to Taco Trucks. He covers restaurants in every form, from breaking news to the culture, people, and history that surrounds LA's dining landscape.

Starting today, anyone who wishes to traverse the pathways of Universal CityWalk can find themselves at Voodoo Doughnut, perhaps the most famous doughnut shop in America. The Portland original, known for its endless lines and colorful creations, has officially dropped a new location in Los Angeles, and you can get your fix any time.

For now, take a look around at the space, served up in all its neon glory. There’s lots of predictable pink, in keeping with the company’s theme, plus gaudy-gothic chandeliers, retro floor tiles, and tons of art on the wall.

And then there are the doughnuts, presented in all their glory from a couple of throwback pie cases. There’s a menu hanging overhead showing off all the day’s offerings, and another counter for anyone who wants to grab some Stumptown Coffee to complete their sweet snack.

Voodoo Doughnut opens today though they will be jiggering their hours in the first few weeks to get a handle on the LA market. Expect a full-fledged opening party sometime next month at Universal CityWalk, with longer hours to follow.
