It’s been a quick ride for Rudy & Hudson California Diner, the recently flipped IHOP space in Santa Monica. So fast, in fact, the casual new restaurant opens today.

Chef Joe Miller and owner Lawrence Rudolph are on the scene now, turning out classic diner fare with rethought ingredients. There’s the reuben as shown above, plus breakfast dishes like brioche french toast and chilaquiles. Lunch includes sandwiches (both hot and cold) and salads mostly), with fried chicken, steaks, and spaghetti and meatballs for dinner.

The space has been given a nice touch-up since the IHOP days, though it keeps a similar layout with counter seating that peeks into the kitchen, those old school stone walls, and lots of tall booths. Everything has been draped in a shiny new black, though, and there are plenty of hanging bulbs around for a more modern vibe.

Rudy & Hudson California Diner is open now in Santa Monica, keeping hours from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
