A weekend fire took out much of a Mar Vista strip mall, knocking offline a couple of local restaurants in the process. According to the forum Food Talk Central, both Rustic Kitchen and Roma Specialty Pizza are down for the count, at least for now. Multiple news outlet showed up to the large blaze, with KTLA reporting some 119 firefighters out to tackle the burn. The strip mall also includes a laundromat and other non-food businesses.

While there were no reported injuries and firefighters have yet to determine a cause, the blaze and resultant smoke could be seen for quite a ways. Venice’s local Patch channel caught quite a few shots of the smoke and flames coming off the building from various social media channels, including the below:

A post over on Roma’s Facebook page alerted customers to the disaster, saying that “unfortunately our store was heavily damage[d],” but that they “promise we'll do our very best to come back better and stronger for all of our customers.” It’s an even sadder story for Rustic Kitchen, which only landed as an all-day marketplace and evening restaurant just over a year ago. Their social media post says the fire didn’t reach their space, but water and smoke damage is still going to take some time to repair.
