Another Esdras update

Salazar opening chef Esdras Ochoa has officially landed in Hong Kong, and he’s starting to dish on details of his first foreign project there. It’s to be called 11 Westside, says Hong Kong Tatler, and will offer a hybrid menu of classic Mexican dishes and new fare just for the restaurant, which should open this summer.

Casita del Campo turns 55

Long-running Mexican restaurant Casita del Campo turns 55 in Silver Lake this month, and to celebrate they’re throwing a big party tonight Expect a live jazz band that night and loads of fun, and then on May 18 they’ll be screening West Side Story to go along with a prix-fixe menu.

John Sparr rises

John Sparr Tavern on the edge of Glendale/Montrose is now open, with the casual evening pub turning out easygoing fare and a tight collection of local pints like Craftsman. Evening hours only for now, 3437 Ocean View Blvd., Glendale.

Return of the Frog Spot

The LA River bike path-adjacent Frog Spot is heading for some fun, with an official opening this year slated for May 27 and 28. The introductory party will kick off a season of local outdoor activities, craft beer, live music, and more.

Behold the Beedle House

LA Weekly talks fondly of 1987 Beedle House, a quirkily-named restaurant out in Walnut that’s doing some interesting Chinese food. Don’t let the title fool you, the place is doing some really interesting stuff.

No more pie

Karla Subero, the smiling face behind some of the city’s best pie (available at the bar only at Here’s Looking at You), is moving on. The restaurant’s Instagram page doesn’t give an updated location, but apparently you’ve only got this week to still enjoy her stuff at the restaurant.

John Sofio wins big

John Sofio of Built, Inc. just won some nice hardware, taking home the Gold IDA Design award for Delilah in West Hollywood, and the Bronze for The Peppermint Club. It’s not hard to understand why Built., Inc. would win the interior design awards: both are stunning spaces.

Free cookies at Milk Jar

Milk Jar Cookies on Wilshire is doing a giveaway today, where anyone who drops in for a purchase between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. will automatically get a free chocolate chip cookie. All you’ve got to do is show up and buy something.
