A Legendary Pub Makes Its Hollywood Comeback a Reality

Finally, it seems, The Cat & Fiddle saga has come to a happy ending, as the beloved Hollywood pub soft-opened its relocated doors yesterday. In what was some of the saddest restaurant news of 2014, the thirty-year-old patio favorite was forced out of its Sunset Boulevard space to make way for New York chef April Bloomfield and restaurateur Ken Friedman.

But now, over two years later, the haven for British ex-pats has opened its doors again, this time in a different Hollywood restaurant space—the former Mud Hen Tavern by Susan Feniger. It’s quite a boon for the area that also has the Mozzaplex, Trois Mec/Petit Trois, Salt’s Cure, and, now, Umeda.

The next generation of the Gardner family, Ashlee and Camille, are taking over the reins of the restaurant from their parents Paula and Kim Gardner, who originally opened the pub in Laurel Canyon in 1982. So how is the Gardner family making this space their own? Now there’s a Tudor-style facade, hand-crafted pub bar, and, harkening back to the original Hollywood space, a secluded patio ideal for sipping craft brews and happy hour bites.

As for the menu, expect old standbys like fish and chips, English pies, and bangers and mash. New additions include a private label English-style dry cider, “The Cat’s Cider,” and a bespoke gin and Scotch coming later this year.

The Cat & Fiddle is still currently in its soft opening phase, which means it will still be tweaking hours as it gets the kitchen up to speed. The restaurant officially opens on June 5 through 11, with a full slate of programming here.
