A new Southern-leaning bar food concept has opened within Hollywood dive bar Royal. Dubbed Bastard Son, the bar menu is the work of Poppy + Rose owner Diana Yin and her chef Juan Chestang, who previously worked as chef de cuisine of the food truck Peaches’ Smokehouse & Southern Kitchen.
The partnership seems to be a natural fit, as Royal, the New Orleans dive bar by Preux & Proper owner Josh Kopel, has been hawking Big Easy-inspired libations for well over two years now. Are there daiquiris, cyclones, and hurricanes? You better believe it.
The independently operated food concept offers a menu inspired by various regions of the South. That means there’s hearty, booze-absorbing fare that ranges from pulled pork sandwiches to fried oyster po’ boys to pig fries with hickory bbq sauce. Come in from 4 to 7 p.m. for even better deals on some of the most popular items.
