Great news for fans of carbs everywhere, as the Pasta Sisters team announced on Instagram this morning plans to expand to an even larger second facility within the larger Culver City Helms Bakery project. The move not only gives the upstart pasta-makers more room to breathe, it should help to further put them on the whole city’s radar.
If you haven’t had the chance to dig into the Mid-City original Pasta Sisters restaurant yet, that’s okay. The place has been doing just fine with its existing (and already expanding) customer base, thanks in large part to their housemade noodles, homey vibe, and very, very low prices. Ideally the new Culver City outlet won’t change much, if any part, of that equation.
While the Instagram post (shown below) doesn’t discuss the exact second address, it’s a fair bet to believe the Pasta Sisters team could be jumping into the former Bucato at the far end of the plaza. After all, Marie Petulla, Bruce Kalman, and George Pitsironis (all of Pasadena’s Union) backed away from that project quietly a while back, and it’s been sitting pristinely empty basically since Evan Funke left years ago.
As you can see, the post notes a decently-sized 3,400 square foot space with seating for 90 and two patios. That second part is particularly intriguing, as Bucato is among the only slots at the Helms Bakery complex with both a patio out front and another, smaller outdoor spot around the corner on Washington Boulevard. Besides, much of the other available storefront space there is still under construction by none other than bakery legend Sherry Yard.
Eater reached out to confirm the new address, but so far hasn’t heard back. Regardless, expect more pasta to hit Culver City soon, which only adds fuel to the dining fire for the city’s exploding Italian renaissance.
EDIT: Pasta Sisters confirmed via email that they are indeed taking over the former Bucato space
