Looks like a second location for Westwood favorite Fundamental LA, with the casual favorite jumping into a new address on Grand Avenue in Downtown. The restaurant will take up some prime real estate inside the larger Eighth & Grand complex, right by that glamorous Whole Foods and around the corner from Bottega Louie.

Reps say the site will offer some 2,700 square feet of dining space, with a patio to boot. That’s not a ton of space, but large enough for something like 45 seats, or just larger than their compact first location in Westwood.

More importantly, Downtown’s Fundamental LA is slated to open as an all-day option for the neighborhood, meaning coffee, pastries, and in-house breads first thing in the morning. You’ll also be able to snag grab-and-go items throughout the day, which is basically what every casual restaurant with the right amount of space is doing these days to fend off rising restaurant costs.

From there, expect a full liquor license with a true bar inside, plus full menus for lunch and dinner. It’s likely they won’t even take time off between shifts, but may fluctuate the scope of their menu throughout the day (a la Botanica, Kismet, or Silver Lake’s other new all-day eatery, Mixed Company).

No official opening date yet, but mid-to-late summer is the most likely answer. In the meantime there’s no shortage of other dining options nearby, from easygoing Barcito a few blocks down to Tom George practically across the street.
