The big, saturated Instagram food trend isn’t going anywhere, as evidenced by the rapid rise of places like Snow Monster. The colorful boba and dessert shop has amassed quite the cult online following thanks to their oversized tea drinks and cookie-within-a-cookie snacks. Now they’re moving on up from locations in Irvine, Westminster, and the Anaheim Packing District to some prime real estate at Universal CityWalk.

This isn’t the first time Snow Monster has flirted with Los Angeles proper. The company already has a small location in Koreatown (a neighborhood where soft serve inside of fish cones is equally Instagram famous) operating daily from noon to midnight, plus another in Long Beach.

CityWalk, though, is a different kind of well-traveled beast. The touristy traverse already has big names like Margaritaville on site, and the line for Voodoo Doughnut is getting longer every day — not to mention the Simpsons and Harry Potter food offerings nearby, meaning there’s loads of competition.

Still, folks do love taking photos of fun, bright food for their social media feeds, and Snow Monster’s drink-in-a-lightbulb schtick is sure to make the storefront a popular addition to CityWalk. No official word on when the pared-down Snow Monster window (to be called Mini Monster, affectionately enough) will open, but expect sometime later this year.
