The always-busy Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop on Hollywood Boulevard was the scene of a rather scary moment yesterday, when an off-duty police officer got into an altercation with a man and his pit bull that ultimately led to the dog being shot.

Per ABC7 and other outlets, the dog’s owner was allegedly a suspect in a robbery, and was confronted by the unnamed officer and other security personnel. During the fracas the dog reportedly attacked both the cop and a security officer, leading the policeman to pull and fire his gun in the middle of the store.

The bullet hit the dog, who continued to run around the shop before ultimately being subdued and transferred to an animal hospital. The human suspect was also taken into custody, while the cop and security officer were both taken to a local hospital themselves to be treated for multiple bite wounds. Hollywood Boulevard was briefly closed as a result.

Unfortunately, this is far from the first time a scary incident between police and suspects has unfolded in Hollywood. Back in February, an attacker reportedly stabbed three people in a knife-wielding rampage down on Sunset Boulevard, with coffee shop workers literally holding doors closed to keep the man from getting inside.
