SteelCraft expands

Long Beach has a hit on its hands with SteelCraft, the shipping container village that has become filled with food, drink, and retail merchants. In fact, the concept has proven popular enough that construction/development partner Howard CDM is planning to build a whole new SteelCraft park in Garden Grove.

The city of Garden Grove approved the plans earlier this week, which means construction can get underway almost immediately. There are plans to rival the Long Beach development by bringing in coffee, craft beer, a burger place, ice cream, and more, spread across some 15,000 square feet. That will all take some time, so expect a build-out lasting a year or more.

The Museum of Ice Cream lives on

Time for another Museum of Ice Cream extension, this time to the middle of October. The hit Downtown showcase is releasing a slew of additional tickets beginning on Thursday at 9 a.m., for anyone interested in diving into the same tub of plastic sprinkles as thousands of people before them.

It’s almost time to get back in to Baleen Kitchen in Redondo Beach. The restaurant went down for an extended remodel back in January but now has sights on a reopening date of June 30, complete with new executive chef Leandro Bongarra, formerly of Sunset Tower Hotel.

Cafecito expands in Frogtown

Looks like more regular service hours for the casual Cafecito Organico in Frogtown. As of yesterday the space at 2902 Gilroy Street began offering consistent daytime weekday hours from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. There’s free wifi, a shaded patio, and some indoor seating as well.
