There’s still plenty of square footage to go around along Figueroa it seems, as newcomer Yolk & Flour has set up a now-permanent space in Cypress Park, just south of Highland Park on LA’s Eastside. The expanded shop comes from catering stars Heirloom LA, and will feature more than a few of the company’s signature dishes — including little savory lasagna cupcakes and Detroit-style pizza. The duo behind Heirloom LA, Matthew Poley and Tara Maxey, have had a longtime Eastside presence.
Yolk & Flour has actually been up and running (albeit in a very unofficial capacity) for more than a month, doing Friday-only service to those in the know. Now they’re planning to move the entire Heirloom operation to the Cypress Park location, leaving their previous space along Verdugo Road behind. That means some downtime without serving food, but ultimately the restaurant will reopen with weekday hours beginning Monday, June 19.

Mostly the spread is a mix of tartines, baked goods, pre-made sandwiches, salads, and sides, but the space itself is rather alluring. Housed in the entrance to a former movie theater with plenty of Gothic touches, the wide room opens up for lines of folks to gawk at the spread. It’s sort of Gjusta-like experience overall, with seating outside.
When all is said and done, Yolk & Flour will keep hours from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday. Add in the new Go Get Em Tiger coming just up the street in Highland Park, plus longtime favorites like Taco Fiesta even closer, and Figueroa continues to be one of the hotter dining streets in the entire city.
