East Coast burger chain Shake Shack is keeping things relevant, adding a new hot chicken option to its tightly-controlled menu. As with other big-name fast food players like KFC, Shake Shack seems to be jumping onboard the Nashville-style spicy fried bird trend, and will launch their own hot chicken sandwich come August 1.
Shake Shack will certainly have some hot chicken competition here in LA, thanks in no small part to places like Howlin’ Ray’s in Chinatown. Even a descendent of the famed Prince’s hot chicken name out of Nashville is now on the West Coast making the stuff, while street vendors and everyone else have begun frying their own.
According to a company release, the new Hot Chick’n sandwich is “a crispy chicken breast dusted with a guajillo and cayenne pepper blend” that will also come with coleslaw and pickles, all wrapped up in the famed Martin’s potato rolls the company is known for. The deal will reportedly not include airport and ballpark locations of Shake Shack, however, and — depending on popularity — could end up being a limited-time-only option. Want in before August 1? Diners can download the Shake Shack app and order through there starting July 28.
