Guerrilla Tacos has officially announced the location of their first-ever brick and mortar restaurant, landing inside the former La Reyna space along 7th Street in the Arts District. To celebrate the eventual opening, chef Wes Avila and his team will be parking in front of the address tomorrow and slinging some food.
Last summer, Avila teased the official opening of his first standalone location with a big party in Boyle Heights. There was plenty of speculation at the time as to just where the new version of Guerrilla Tacos would end up, but now the address is confirmed as 2000 E. 7th Street, steps from Everson Royce Bar and just around the corner from Bestia. The address is the site of the former La Reyna, which for a long, long time represented the best street tacos available in that stretch of the city, so it’s fitting to have Avila running a 2.0 taco redux out of the same space.
As for tomorrow’s party, social media says the Guerrilla Tacos truck will be parked in front of the building from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. No official word on whether or not curious onlookers will get a view into the property itself, considering things are still under construction, but it’s possible — especially since the truck’s Instagram post calls it a “sneak peek.”
Once the Guerrilla Tacos brick and mortar is fully operational, Avila says he’s likely to leave the truck behind. The ultimate goal is to recreate the standalone restaurant experience in new cities all over the place, while also bringing those same recipes home in a new cookbook format. Until then the truck is still roaming around doing near-daily stops across the city.
