West Hollywood gains 5 Elementos, (pronounced “Cinco Elementos”), which anticipates opening later this summer along Santa Monica Blvd. For those who find Mexican food a little on the heavy side, 5 Elementos wants to change that perception. This new eatery’s focus is highlighting vegan-friendly, organic Mexican cuisine.
Take in the modern Aztec theme, order at the counter and choose a base for a taco, like the spicy chipotle taco with lime slaw and chipotle vegan crema. Or ask for the vista taco with lime, jalapeño, avocado, cilantro, and salsa. Keep it vegan or add a choice of protein, like carne asada, chicken or tofu. Other options include burritos with fuego salsa or bowls like the chickpea bowl with quinoa, kale, cauliflower, sweet potato, mango bits, and avocado. Add a side like the sweet corn tamale and round the meal off with agua fresca.
5 Elementos hopes to accommodate diners with dietary restrictions, vegans, vegetarians, and meat lovers — pretty typical for West Hollywood. No liquor license yet but the owners are working on opening with a beer and wine license. To start, hours of operation will be 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursdays, and closing at 1 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays, which works well for the post-drinking crowd here.
