There’s a food court explosion happening right now in Los Angeles. Along with more established places like Grand Central Market, the Spring Arcade, and Fig & 7th’s Food Hall, there’s the newer Proud Bird’s Food Bazar and Hawthorne’s expanding Magnitude LAX venture coming down the line. Los Angeles will not have to wait long for the next project as Corporation Food Hall on Spring between 7th and 8th Streets in Downtown opens this month.

The opening date is uncertain, as they are finalizing the inspection process, but right now they’re projected to open by mid to late August. This feels more like a food court versus a food hall because there are just eight restaurants in total, with some familiar faces, new concepts, and former food trucks turned brick and mortar.

Bardonna serves coffee, drinks, salads, and sandwiches with locations in Brentwood, Larchmont, Santa Monica and Silver Lake. Unrelated to the now shuttered Beverly Blvd and Santa Monica restaurants with the same name, Buddha Belly operates the ArroyLA food truck with a diverse Asian fare. Buddha Belly will be their first restaurant. There’s Funculo for pastas. Many, many pastas.

The Sixth Nickel is a concept of Sherman Oak’s On The Thirty, which is a self described, “World Renowned Mixology Meets Five Star Wine List.” Originally based in Santa Ana, Pig Pen Delicacy has a sharp focus on everything pork, along with a deep fried menu and a fried egg garnish for any selection.

Poke2Go’s owner, Jeremy Ryan, started the shop as a side business three years ago. With enough growth to take on the gig full time, Ryan is ready to maneuver his mostly Westside food truck to the east part of town.

Healthy lifestyle restaurant Soom Soom opens their second LA restaurant, with their first along West Third Street. Soom Soom means sesame seeds in Hebrew, with foods from the Mediterranean. They tout a 100 year old falafel recipe, a salad bar, and sandwiches.

Tacos tu Madre opened a Larchmont location this past July, and also has spots in Los Feliz as well as Westwood. The Instagram feed is decadent, with red velvet churros, a buttermilk crispy shrimp taco, and vegetarian breakfast burrito with truffle guacamole. This new food court brings something new to an area that has developed slower than the northern part of Historic Core.
