Popular local food truck The Urban Oven is expanding into an official new space in Downtown next month. The wood-fired pizza option is heading for some frontage at The Bloc property, which continues to come online with new names after a protracted build-out.

The Urban Oven is the work of Scott Tremonti, who has been at the helm of the big black rig for years now, doing stops at Silver Lake Wine and all across the city. With the new subterranean restaurant space, Tremonti will be able to expand on his Italian menu while still rocking a collection of wood-fired pies.

Tremonti has been doing a small video series on his Facebook page showing off the progress of the restaurant, from first getting the keys to today’s timelapse of the oven going in and walk-through of the patio.

Plans are to have the place up and running by the middle of September, which leaves only a few short weeks to finish the build-out, hire up staff and get ready for service. Once arrived, The Urban Oven should help to push LA’s recent pizza renaissance even further, alongside names like Felix in Venice and Cosa Buona in Echo Park. Even Phoenix’s Chris Bianco has been reportedly eyeing some restaurant space for one of his namesake pizzerias.
