Say farewell to the Blue Hen, the restaurant that has served homestyle Vietnamese food to Eagle Rock since 2004. They’re scheduled to close Friday, August 25 at their Colorado Blvd strip mall location.
Blue Hen’s landlord, PacWest Management, abruptly raised the rent from $3,000 to $5,000 per month, which was too much for the business to bear. Employees feel blindsided by the news, and the restaurant has no immediate plans to relocate. Normally closed on weekends, Blue Hen will be open for dinner on August 19 and 20 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. to say goodbye to customers and the neighborhood.
As first reported by The Eastsider, customers found a note on the front door about the closing. The post on their front door and Facebook reads:
To our Customers, Neighborhood, Friends, and Family:
Since opening our doors in 2004,it has been the Blue Hen’s goal to bring fresh, organic, home-style Vietnamese cooking to Eagle Rock. After some early changes, we evolved into the Blue Hen you know today...a local spot to grab a bite, meet family and friends, celebrate a birthday, get over a cold, do some work, or even just hang out. Through the years, guests from many walks of life have come through our doors, With you, we’ve experienced first dates, romance, and some last dates too. Before our eyes, friendships have deepend, families have grown, kids have gone off to college, you’ve made career changes, and some of you have even moved away and come back. We’ve shared many laughs, and we;ve come to know many of you well. We like to think we’re that spot where “everybody knows your name,” and how you like your pho.
It is with deep regret that we announce that the doors to Blue Hen will close for the last time on Friday, August 25, 2017. We know this is very sudden, and we apologize for the abrupt notice. Since we have been unable to secure a new lease with our landlord, PacWest Management, we are left with no other choice than to end our 13-year run. Because this was so unexpected, we do not have plans to relocate at this time since neither a move or expansion were in our immediate future.
We ope to see as many of you as possible before our last day. Please stop by, Monday through Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Although we have been closed on weekends, we will serve dinner this Saturday and Sunday, August 19 and 20, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.
We are forever grateful to our many customers and, especially to our “regulars.” We can’t thank you enough for your many years of patronage and your loyalty to the Blue Hen. This is a sad ending to an incredible journey for all of us. It has been our pleasure to be part of the Eagle Rock community, to be part of your lives, and to serve delicious food to all of you. We hope our paths will cross again in the future. Until then, we wish you all the best.
Gratefully,
Your Blue Hen family
