It’ll be a marriage of East Coast and West Coast at Osteria Mozza on August 23, when a Babbo pop-up hits at the corner of Melrose and Highland. The five-course menu is being carefully crafted by Babbo’s executive chef Frank Langello, as well as beverage director for the Batali & Bastianich Hospitality Group Jeff Porter. Nancy Silverton will be there too of course, hosting the gathering in Osteria Mozza’s intimate Primo Ministro room.
As Babbo’s executive chef, chef Langello managed a coveted three-star rating by the New York Times, and has helped direct the restaurant to become one of the shining Italian stars in New York City’s universe. Jeff Porter’s fingerprints are on the wine collection at Mozza as well, as he served as the restaurant’s Wine Director from 2009 through 2011. Expect a menu that includes tonnarelli verde with chanterelles, hangar steak and more — plus built-in wine pairings.
Batali and Bastianich Hospitality Group maintains a roster with over 25 restaurants nationwide, including the Los Angeles-based Chi Spacca, Mozza2Go, Pizzeria Mozza, and Osteria Mozza. Each restaurant under the Batali & Bastianich banner has a distinct style, so this evening is a rare moment for Los Angeles to experience Langello’s cooking techniques. There are limited tickets left at $275 per person.
