Nightlife aficionados never have to wait long for a new project from h.wood Group. John Terzian and Brian Toll’s most recent opening Poppy transforms the former STK space on La Cienega, debuting last Thursday. Following in the footsteps of sister venues Delilah, The Nice Guy, and the recently revamped Blind Dragon, Poppy is poised to be one of the hottest new nightclubs in the city.
Designed by John Sofio of Built, Inc., stepping into the venue is something like falling down the rabbit hole. A garden-inspired entrance leads to the kaleidoscope library and Gucci-inspired atrium marked by floral fabrics, vaulted arched ceilings, acid-stained antique mirrors, and an accent wall covered in, well, poppies, of course.
The place goes full bore with the whimsical theme, hiring a cast of storybook characters including mermaids, peacock poppies, and human “animals” roaming around the space.
h.wood group’s celebrity following that includes the Kardashian clan, Drake, and Katy Perry won’t have to mingle with the common folk, as a private bar within the space will add a second layer of exclusivity. Poppy is only open on Thursdays from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
