One of Oprah’s favorite caramel companies is moving from the wholesale space into some prime real estate in East Hollywood. Le Bon Garcon serves up French-style caramels with some nice packaging, but soon Thai Town wanderers will be able to stop in for a taste directly.
The storefront location for Le Bon Garcon puts them right next door to Friends & Family and near Tabula Rasa Bar, on what has become quite the redone dining block of late. The plan is to give the space a simple Parisian feel, with just enough room for some retail and light eating. Apparently beyond the hard candies the company will also serve caramel-filled waffles for on-site eating.
Le Bon Garcon is the work of Justin Chao, a former office type who moved to Paris to learn the art of caramel-making several years ago. Since then he’s been making wholesale caramels from a production facility in the Valley, but recently secured the more central location to allow for retail and wholesale — thanks in no small part to shout-out from the ever-popular Oprah gift guides.
Hours for Le Bon Garcon will be Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 5 p.m., with occasional caramel-making classes and wine-led tastings down the line. Expect an opening sometime in November.
