Beverly Grove locals bemoaned the loss of Food Fair by Diego a while back, but now it seems the simple strip mall operation has its sights set on a return journey.
Chef Diego Balam confirmed the return of his eponymous Food Fair to Eater just today, saying that an opening could come as soon as next week. If not then, expect something by early next month.
For those unfamiliar, Food Fair is a small corner strip mall operation just east of Fairfax off Beverly Boulevard. The comfortable setting played well for the community after first opening in 2009, but ultimately the restaurant fell by the wayside and quietly closed up shop. Now their Facebook account is back up and running, the kitchen is starting to turn out upcoming menu items, and there’s a banner hanging over the front announcing an impending arrival.
Don’t expect exactly the same experience as the former Food Fair, though. Balam says the restaurant will only operate for breakfast and lunch when it comes back, focusing on quick-fire dishes like breakfast sandwiches and breakfast burritos. Lunch will look more familiar, with many of the original daytime items returning, in addition to takeaway salads and sandwiches. Those inexpensive prix fixe dinner nights may return in the future, but not right away. Still, a win is a win for Beverly Grove fans of Diego Balam’s cute corner strip mall oasis.
