Top Chef Brooke Williamson Surprise Opens Mar Vista Ice Cream Shop Today

Looks like chef Brooke Williamson just couldn’t keep Small Batch Ice Cream to herself. Only weeks after first announcing the place, the Mar Vista ice cream shop decided to throw open its doors to the world with a quiet reveal earlier today.

The surprise opening is a boon for fans of Williamson and husband/partner Nick Roberts from many TV appearances or their slew of popular coast-hugging restaurants like The Tripel, Hudson House, and Playa Provisions. More recently they’ve opened casual places like Da Kikokiko in Playa Vista, which are appealing not only because they reach the most people but also because they keep overhead comparatively low.

So what to expect from Small Batch? Ice Cream mostly, with room for some pre-made candies and cookies available at the ordering counter as well. Flavors range from simple to more complex and seasonal (and should rotate in and out often), while toppings range from salted caramel to hot fudge. The range of ice cream goes beyond scoops too, to include sandwiches, popsicles, milkshakes, floats, and larger-format ice cream cakes and pies.

A call in to the shop just now confirms that they are open, though they’re still ironing out hours. Expect Small Batch to close around 8 p.m. or 9 p.m. tonight.
