A brazen thief snuck into Rosemead’s 888 Seafood Restaurant over the weekend and reportedly stole a heart-shaped box containing up to $20,000 worth of cash from a wedding banquet. According the the Pasadena Star News, the crime took place at the beginning of the reception, and the suspect is still at large.

Surveillance video footage (below) shows a lone suspect entering the 888 Seafood Restaurant on Valley Boulevard. They linger for a few moments before grabbing the heart-shaped box filled with money and quickly running back out through the restaurant doors. A chase ensued when guests realized what had happened, but they were unable to retrieve the box of money, which was offered as a wedding gift by family and friends.

With over 250 scheduled attendees to the banquet reception, bride and groom Kenny and Anh Diep say that they simply thought the thief was a guest about to sign in. After calculating the cash contributions, the couple estimated the amount lost was around $20,000. The pair seemed to be otherwise undeterred though, telling the Star News that they kept the reception going even after the incident. “We had a lot of guests coming from far away, all to spend the weekend with us,” Anh Diep said. “When it happened, we tried our best to carry on with the rest of the night.”
